I decided to take a trip to Kenya right before I was to start an oil rigging job out in the Gulf of Mexico. I was just going to go and explore myself, but I changed my mind and went with a tour instead. The travel company I used specializes in Kenya safari packages, so I knew I was in for a treat. There were several packages from which I could choose from. I chose to go on a Seychelles Islands and Kenya wildlife safari. It sounded like the coolest choice for me with the most adventure.
We left from Washington D.C. and flew straight through to an island called Mahe. The flight was long, but well worth it. I checked in at the Bliss Hotel and started my vacation. We got to go snorkeling in the Indian Ocean and even got to see a real live reef. It was amazing. We then went to Nairobi to feed wild giraffes. I actually got to hand feed them, it was so cool.
We then went on five different half day safaris. We got to ride in these 4×4 pop-out vehicles across the grasslands and through trails in the woods. There I saw so many different types of birds. There were monkeys, lots of them in the woods hooting and howling at us as the vehicles drove past. Out in the grasslands we saw elephants, lions, hippos, a few rhinos, and a lot of deer-like animals. It was a really good experience. The whole time I was there I just could not believe that I was actually doing it; I was going on a real safari. It seemed almost cliché, but the adventure was real and very much worth it.
